The following job descriptions have been culled from various public safety offices in California to give you an idea of what is required for various jobs.
| Building Security Attendant |
Under supervision, incumbents perform a variety of patrol and stationary security functions such as monitoring access to County facilities, facilitating energy conservation efforts, monitoring and activating/deactivating alarms, responding to alarms/events, and observing and reporting facility safety and health hazards. Building Security Attendants are unarmed, uniformed personnel who are licensed guards, carry non-lethal defense weapons, and are trained in first aid and CPR.
Candidates must possess:
- A valid Security Guard License issued by the State of California, Department of Consumer Affairs, Bureau of Security and Investigative Service
- Permit/certification for non-lethal defensive weapons (pepper spray) issued by the State of California, Department of Consumer Affairs, Bureau of Security and Investigative Service
- Permit/certification for non-lethal defensive weapons (baton) issued by the State of California, Department of Consumer Affairs, Bureau of Security
- CPR certificate from an authorized agency
- First Aid certificate from an authorized agency

| Sheriff's Records Clerk |
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Processes a variety of documents, including warrants, warrant recalls, deputy reports, in-custody holds and releases, and remanding orders; seals records as ordered by the courts; performs jail checks.
- Provides assistance to the general public, attorneys, insurance companies and law enforcement agencies; disseminates required information to a requesting agency or individual following departmental guidelines; verifies or requests information from other agencies.
- Operates teletype units; receives and initiates inquiries, all point bulletins, warrant abstracts, and other information requests; ensures the appropriate dissemination of information received.
Minimum Requirements:
YOU MUST MEET ALL OF THE FOLLOWING:
- Availability: Must be available for all shifts.
- Keyboarding: 35 wpm.
- Experience: One year (full-time equivalent) of office clerical experience, with duties that include public contact, computer usage, phones and filing. (NOTE: Retail sales and food service experience does not qualify.)

| Sheriff's Clerk I |
- Prepares, processes, maintains, and files a variety of records, reports, and permits.
- Fingerprints employees and the public as assigned.
- Processes necessary documents in support of civil processes.
- Collects statistical data and compiles data for reports; updates and assures the accuracy of statistical database.
- Receives requests, and sends information to law enforcement officers, other agencies and jurisdictions.
- Types information on standard forms and inputs data into computer system.
- Open and distributes mail; answers phones and provides information to the public.
- Maintains trustee and escrow accounts; collects room and board charges; keeps accurate records of all monies received and disbursed.
- Receives, processes, distributes, and files warrants of arrest.
- Teletype warrant abstract to other agencies and enter warrant information into state/nationwide warrant system.
- Assists in supervision of inmates on Electronic Surveillance Program or inmates on parole.
- Utilizes a computer software system to input, access, retrieve, and analyze data.
- May be required to complete a POST 40-hour basic records class.
Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses:
- High school diploma or equivalent GED certificate.
- One (1) year of public service and computer experience preferred.
- Requires the ability to type 40 net words per minute.
- A valid State of California driver's license is required and must be able to pass a thorough background investigation.
